For a very modern feel, use matching indoor and outdoor tiles. This contemporary style has become very popular in recent years, with more and more tile manufacturers making matching smooth or matte finish tiles and rougher textured anti-slip external tiles. This works especially well with French doors and/or alfresco areas. It really does bring the outdoors in.
It’s effective, so simple to achieve and adds a real third dimension to your entertaining experience.
There is quite an extensive range of tiles now available through Hayters that have either a satin, matte, polished or semi polished/lappato internal finish with a matching anti-slip external finish. Some of these also come in very natural stone finishes like sandstone, granite, travertine and even timber look.
Regarding external tiles, there are two types of finishes with external tiles, glazed tile and full bodied porcelain. The former usually starts with a smooth flat tile that then has a rough, almost sandpaper-like texture added to the top layer, making them VERY good with anti-slip properties. The full-bodied porcelain tiles are usually pressed and have an undulated texture more like a slate or sandstone pattern on top. We sell both types, however there is certainly a wider range of options in the glazed tile type that have both external and matching internal finishes available.
